The NLP Business Plan to start your own NLP Coaching Practice
Nevertheless, making sure you set up your business in the right way and to use the best business strategies to get clients enables you to do just that: help other people get over problems. It is harder to get people for coaching if you offer it for free than when you start charging them. The more you operate like a business, the more people you can help.
That is the reason that I have created this free NLP Business plan so you have a definite plan to help you achieve your dreams. To get this plan, fill in the form below:

NLP Achievements
I followed your class twice for 1 day and you said that the best way to thank you would be with a note. So here goes. What I have achieved through your workshops during the past year (Jan. 19, May 18, 2008)
Stopped smoking
I didn’t smoke that much, but that heavy breathing that I noticed in others I found was beneath me, and I thought more and more that it was a bad example. But I also didn’t want to become one of those hysteric anti-smokers. So I ‘programmed myself” that if someone lit a cigarette next to me that the first sniff still smells good, but that that doesn’t have anything to do with me wanting it in my lungs. Now, it doesn’t bother me at all if someone next to me is smoking and sometimes (the first sniff after its lit) I like it. Just like almost everybody I hate the smell of old smoke and I see the health risks more and more. So my resistance to smoking is increasing. The goal to stop smoking and not be bothered if others do smoke has been achieved. I can still enjoy what I used to like.
Less coffee
Trivial, but it bothered me that I couldn’t do without coffee in the morning and didn’t even enjoy it. In almost the same way, I programmed myself to only want coffee at 10.30. That works very well.
Created a nice meditation mantra
I am a fuss box and as a type 9 I tend to put things off. In order to make my current habit of meditating more effective in busy times, I rely on the mantra specially created for me with NLP:
I steadily do what I want to do; if I am overwhelmed I take something that is important and finish it. It contains all the aspects that are important to me. Steadily for me is progress, speed is not a problem, attention is. That’s why I say steadily.
Do what I want to do. It is my inner choice to do what I do.
Overwhelmed linked to normal. Make it lighter and simple. Being overwhelmed is really a problem for me, this makes it easier.
Something that’s important, because otherwise I would end up in a thinking loop about what is most important to do now. That’s not practical, so just do something important.
And that way I am able to finish something, and because I do it steadily I finish everything.
Ended my relationship
It wasn’t a bad relationship, it was lovely, but it wasn’t going to last. By drawing my future in the workshop I saw that I needed to be on my own for a few years before starting a real relationship. That what I really need and want, requires that I be alone for a while. He had a lot of anger and questions. I still can’t quite explain it in words, but when I see the drawing in my head it is clear: to postpone it would not make sense. I have to spend at least 2 years on my one and after that (despite the statistics) I don’t have to worry about a new relationship. And even if the relationship never happens, this was the right choice, even though I miss the hugs. It is just crystal clear.
Dear Joost, I hope you consider this to be the gift that I intended it to be. Happy holidays and a wonderful New Year.

Coaching Dream Come True
I have come far in life by persevering, hard work and always doing my best. You have shown me, made me feel and hear that there are many other ways. For instance, I can now also use my brain optimally by relaxing. From my perfectionism I can also lean on my bon-vivant side. And better yet: it makes my life a lot more fun.
I had a dream of coaching and guiding people because of my experience with loss. When I started the NLP classes, I couldn’t dare to dream that that wish would come true so quickly. In the meantime I am now working as a coach and achieving good results.
Now that I have completed the Master Practitioner, I have gained even more, i.e. a solid foundation, which I can use to help others. What makes me the happiest now is how my new future is looking.
I can see myself as a happy person again with a goal and moreover with very many opportunities. I determine how I want to feel. It is indescribable what that does for my self-confidence, for my work, my relationship and the people I love. Everybody around me benefits. I see how much fun my life is, now and in the future. That gives me energy!
This course is different. Never before had I followed a course or class that was so intense and where I still came home feeling so fresh and enthusiastic. Your energy, your enticing and challenging way of working, allows me to be myself and ask the questions I have. Time and time again. And boy, did I ever laugh!”

NLP Business started
I followed NLP Practitioner with you during the past 4 months. I thought it was terrific and have really learned a lot about how I can help people better.
On the last day I mentioned to you that at the school where I work for 2 days a week they had asked me to organize a workshop on NLP. I asked you then what I should do. Very casually you said: “well, the reverse technique and the black/white rewind technique are good to fill an hour and a half.” So I thought about that for a long time, worried (got rid of it with NLP) and gave the workshop 2x today. I dreaded it a bit, was afraid that I wouldn’t remember the steps. However, it was a tremendous success! The most sceptical colleagues (and there are a lot of them in education), indicated that it did work very well, those ‘strange’ techniques. You often said that it would all come back to me once I was working with it. I kept that in mind and indeed it almost proceeded by itself. My brain had remembered more than I thought. It has at least convinced me that I am going to use NLP in my coaching. I am going to get started with this very diligently.
Naturally I told them who taught me all of this and wrote your name on the board. Maybe it will result in more candidates for you.
Thanks again for the great class!
Kind regards,

Yet another NLP Business set up
I would like to thank you very much for everything you taught me during the Master class. It does you credit that you share it so gracefully. I thought it was amazing that I could follow the entire practitioner class again at no charge. I learned so much, especially because the way Richard Bandler teaches NLP is different to how other institutes do it. I now know the difference and use the handy, simple and wonderful techniques that you taught me a lot and successfully so!
I asked you endless questions, but you continued to answer them patiently. In other classes I have experienced that I was asked to ask less questions and listen more and to trust that the answer would come. You will understand that after that I didn’t dare…. You always treated me with tremendous respect despite all my questions. For me, asking questions is a way of finding structure in that what is being taught. If I can’t feel the structure, I don’t understand a thing and could just as well be doing something else. So, thanks again for the time and the respect for all of my questions.
Also I learned from you that I should stop focussing on everything I do wrong. MAN, that feels good!! Now, I have am very confident about all my qualities as a NLP Master coach and my Ademwerk activities are also deepened now because I am a NLP master. The funny thing is, I think, that I don’t do my ‘best’ to feel the confidence, it’s just there!! I am as happy as a young child about that! And lately, I also don’t think so analytical anymore, that is lovely and feels very light. You also allowed me to experience what it is like not to talk about a conviction of mine that was bugging me, but to just apply the techniques and that made it go away like snow in summer and it still hasn’t returned!! I have a smile on my face thinking about it, you can imagine the change. Really super that you allowed me to experience that, it worth the world to me personally but also in my role as a coach. I have now experienced for myself that the techniques work and that analyzing doesn’t get you anywhere, it just gives you an unpleasant feeling… It’s too bad that so many other coaches and institutes still pay so much attention to analysing. I can go on and on I’ve notice with listing all the wonderful things, I am that enthusiastic!
Good luck with your classes and I look forward to meeting you again.
Kindest regards from Heleen Oude Weernink

The master practitioner’s course that we followed during the past few months was wonderful. Now, immediately after the course, tired and satisfied I am reflecting on the results. This year you tremendously inspired me to use the marvellous, effective NLP and Enneagram techniques on a daily basis. I already was doing so, but now I can apply these changing techniques more creatively. The remarkable experience you gave me was excellent. I feel now that I am accelerating my coaching, training and change management practice. More success for this successful worker, fantastic. These masters will allow me to add even more value to my clients’ therapy. And of course I am happier myself: an unstoppable Michel has awakened!
Thank you for this wonderful experience and impulse!

“What is the essence of NLP when applied to guiding change? How can a coach or leader work with language patterns? This is what fourteen interim managers, top advisors and coaches from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works set to work with. During a two-day NLP workshop on June 22 and 23, 2009 at the Oud Poelgeest Estate they learned the latest and most effective NLP techniques by dr. Richard Bandler.
The semi-annual classes by the department “Office Advisors” this time were led by Michel La Poutre and Joost van der Leij. “Office Advisors” is the club for internal advisors, very experienced interim managers and top coaches in Transport and Public Works; invest in mutual training days to learn to and from each other is high on their list of priorities.
NLP techniques offer exceptional opportunities that allow changes in an individual, team or organisation to take place much simpler and more pleasantly. The powerful language of change and the effective and simple techniques by dr. Richard Bandler add value to the work of transformers, coaches and interim leaders. The participants learned during the workshops primarily by acting and experiencing. Techniques such as change reversal technique, making decisions with NLP and personal back casting proved to be very easy to implement. It makes a professional transformer’s work significantly more effective.
Personal back casting helps people to take action way beyond their ‘regular’ limitations. The technique is based on an inspirational future far away where the coach gradually flashes back to the ‘here and now’. Using this technique, people learn that they can do more than they thought, can use experiences from the past and at the same time change now what is necessary to obtain more success and fun in their life and in their work. In addition to personal back casting is the comparable collective back casting which can also easily be applied within teams and even within entire organisations.
Michel has worked with NLP as a practicing transformer for some time. He often applies techniques and language patterns by Bandler in his work as a coach, advisor and interim leader. “It is an excellent way to communicate and guide change processes better. Excellent communication is also crucial if an interim leader wants to achieve change. Too often people, teams and organisations focus primarily on their limitations so that they don’t see enough options to achieve change. With reinforced self-influence and communication skills, people who want to change are better equipped to leap from the present situation to the desired situation. IF they learn how to make this change themselves it is easy to accomplish the change well. Whether it’s about a difficult change like implementing an IT system or a soft change in the organisational culture”.
If you would like to have a workshop organised in your company or organisation, please contact Michel La Poutre (www.lapoutre.net).
Yet another NLP Trainer's testimonial
Thank you for a dozen of unconventional educational days. You often confused our conscious, but it turned out that subconsciously we were capable of learning a lot more and much easier than we thought. In my opinion, during the last days it was remarkable how much progress everybody made with the techniques, the language skills and the Enneagram. Easily. And what I (and I think everybody else) especially learned ‘in some inexplicable way’ is ‘attitude’. Confidence, guts and curiosity. So, clients? Yes! Get yourself on the market? Yes! And again all in a relaxed, effortless and unforced manner.
I experienced Dr. Richard Bandler in Edinburgh, but also Joost Dr. ‘Feelgood’ van der Leij is Amsterdam was what you could call ‘amazing’!
After your explanation and demonstrations during the course, I read your clear and enticing book in one go. I am enthusiastic about how you cleverly combine NLP and Enneagram. I’m curious about the results in daily practice and will start using it!

“HI Joost,
I would like to respond to your request, a long Christmas holiday ago, about writing a piece for the Master’s course.
After the practitioner course I was happy that I had learned so easily and pleasantly how to apply so many skills and techniques. And I was surprised with the courage you had aroused in us, to use what we had learned and help clients. I smugly wondered what the master course could add to that.
Now, after completing the master course, I have found out that I have learned so much more than I could have suspected in advance. Even more fascinating new skills, like creating a deep trance. But moreover, there is another major lesson that the institute for unconventional wisdom’s master course taught me. The lesson that in fact I know nothing at all.
And that is not a discouraging insight, I have noticed. On the contrary, because what you offered us in the days during the master course is a profound trust in creativity and our subconscious’ powers of perception . So even if I don’t know anything, my subconscious will know what to do. And indeed, while improvising, with an open mind, observing and experimenting, wonderful things happen with my clients and with me.
For that wise lesson, that you have transmitted with yourself as an example, with your stories about trance and with your informal, provocative approach, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because discovering the power of the subconscious has put my life on a totally new track.
In short, I can recommend your master programme to everybody that practices NLP and is looking for true depth…deeper and deeper…hip, hip…hurray for cocky Joost!
Kind regards,
Matthijs den Besten”
A NLP Trainer speaks his mind
When I look back on the NLP practitioner course that I followed with Joost, there are a number of things that I can say. Disbelief, amazement, question marks and flabbergasted…
What an unusual way of teaching, instructing, learning and gaining knowledge. I am also a trainer in a contact centre and Muay Thai trainer, but the way Joost teaches I feel is just unique and effective. Whereas I sometimes wondered: what is this about???? He guided me more and more towards the subconscious heart of NLP during every moment, process and experience.
No matter how critical or doubtful I can be, the veil was lifted for me and I got to look inside the NLP kitchen. With amazement I watch and see how people revive after a technique that looks so easy, and that must make you, as Joost always puts it so matter of factly, feel good in an easy and simple way.
En yessss, it works and I see the positive changes in people in my surroundings that I have helped with various NLP techniques.
Having said this, it is important to realize that if you want to get acquainted with NLP and meet and experience the positive changes you can achieve…. You are in the right place with Joost and his TIOUW.
It is unconventional, it is absolute wisdom, with a mix of metaphors, quotes, philosophy and humour. A very positive, educational experience that will subconsciously stick with you.
I am reading your NLP Manual and realize that you are a person that sincerely and with conviction wants to convey the greatness of NLP. The past teaching weekends I saw a lot of myself and discovered what my patterns of behaviour are, which I wanted to understand and/or change. I am very impressed, I could have hoped for this but never could have expected it. It is beautiful how a person works, how you can somewhat lift the veil of the capacity of the human brain, how you can see and visualise emotions and feelings, who would have thought that.
I have looked at you in moments of doubt; what is Joost saying now. But you truly touched me. Nothing of what you taught us did I take for granted. I have experienced them and I have changed in a positive way. And, if it is at all possible, I would like to see, feel and improve even more. I am convinced that I can improve the quality of my life. I was a no-person. Reluctant and insecure. I know more and see better that more can be achieved. I have tried the exercises on other people and helped them with a number of exercises. They come back and say: John it works, I feel better, more relaxed, my thoughts are free and I am more positive in my actions. I consider it a privilege that I was able to learn that from you.

“Yes, you can wonder about that question and why I followed another NLP course with Joost van der Leij, i.e. the NLP Master Practitioner course. Functionality and tested and proven.
In his Master Practitioner course, Joost made me notice and feel what the added value of the NLP master coach diploma is in a relaxed, effective and practical manner.
I am a man of results, I am a person that finds it is important to experience what I learn myself and also experience that it works for others and that I can help others in a quick and effective no-nonsense way to change that what they want to change.
Whether it is changing negative emotions or achieving goals. The question that many a person asks when they go to see is coach is … how am I going to make this change?
In Joost van der Leij’s Master Practitioner course you learn to realize even more how to make the knowledge you have gained in the practitioner course more profound and effective and that you can rise above the techniques learned, so that NLP is transformed into your own unique method without losing its effectiveness and sound NLP structure. Also you learn that the NLP is a collection of building blocks that you can build all kinds of wonderful things with, things that last. A simple example is helping a client get over his fear of anaesthesia, which he’s had for years.
During the NLP Master Practitioner course, I first experienced a combination of repetitions of gained practitioner knowledge, so that it is completely clear and that all questions or inclarities have been answered. And then go on to work with powerful NLP techniques to learn deep trance phenomena, increase your own creativity, experience the power of entrainment and energy, the power of the spirit, empathy, visualisation, not counting the power of your brain and how you realize that the techniques are just a minor part of NLP and that it’s not about the techniques but about your mentality and state of mind.
A change is made in no time, that I learn every day with my clients, but keeping it that way... That is the trick.
So, go to Joost and find out the secret to this problem.
If you want to become an NLP Master Practitioner, and also wish to enlighten yourself with practical and sound NLP knowledge, so that you can build on a good foundation and can teach others to build, I would advise you to learn real NLP from Joost van der Leij through his Institute of unconventional Wisdom which will transform your life, so that you will experience that life is NLP.

Yet another NLP professional speaks out
Today was the last day of the Practitioner course and it was nicely concluded with an official certificate. Many educational institutes could take Tiouw (is Joost) as an example considering that I have learned an awful lot in such a short time especially as far as daily practice is concerned. It is a no nonsense education without ridiculous theories that you have to learn by heart. Naturally, I was sceptical about some techniques, but once I used them I was convinced: it works!
This critical and analytical woman can recommend everybody wanting to learn NLP to take the course from Joost, also because of the fact that he regularly brushes his knowledge up with Richard Bandler himself, so that he is up to date with the latest knowledge in the field. Go for it!
Paula van de Water-Smit”
After following the Practitioner course with Joost the next logical step for me was to follow his Master Practitioner course also. During his course you are allowed to invent your own techniques. Secretly, I was already doing that, but now it was permitted. It is a course that requires a lot of creativity: from painting art to voice techniques and more. Especially the way you describe how your wildest dream looks like in 30 years and how it is displayed in trance with sound and everything made a deep impression on me. If this website still exists in 30 years, I will drop by to see if the dream has come true!
Naturally I laughed a lot too, so that in this very relaxing manner I again learned a lot. For those in doubt (who do not master the techniques of making good choices) I would like to say that Joost’s Master Practitioner course is a good choice that you will be able to use in daily life in various ways.
Joost, until the next time!

I recently gained more in-depth information on the Maya calendar and the energetic values of the days of the year. The class started on a red day (there are four colours, red, white, blue and yellow), the most successful day to start something (new).
The days with Bandler and La Valle also started on a red day. The first four days that you taught class, Joost, I experienced as being very pleasurable and educational. You explained all the basic techniques of the NLP method very clearly and lively. Getting started with varying groups of three was a practical pleasant exercise, which allowed us to flexibly and creatively apply the teaching material. I myself ended up on such a positive wavelength that gave me such an astounding amount of energy so much so that I could do with less sleep despite the intensity of the days. You gave the class with clear authority, but also with openness, a lot of humour and ease.
In an amazing way you know how to get people in touch with their own strength and you taught us how we could do that for others and for ourselves.
The content of the class and your way of teaching, which is in line with Bandler’s, felt like a homecoming on that first day at the Krasnapolski. After being in touch with people outside of our group I noticed that, thanks to everything we learned from you already, we had a considerable head start. The things I saw and learned there fell, as it were, in a soft place. Just like in your class I have gained tremendous insight into human functioning and especially into utilizing the surprisingly positive opportunities that are hidden in every problem! Before I started this class I had no idea that it would contain a key to “your unlimited self”! And by applying it also to “the unlimited other”!
The effect that it’s had on my immediate environment is tremendous!
The concluding days on the Enneagram types were very clarifying.
Luckily, I knew from reading your book what type I was and had had the shock of that ‘nasty’ discovery. Type 2, the Helper. Seen from my family background I suddenly realized that that was the only way to survive in all that misery. The Cinderella of the house, so to speak, until I got the glass slippers which made the steps I took more transparent and at the same time solved the past. The effect was like a kind of super rewind technique, or that is how it felt. From my own experience I can agree with you that the Enneagram is a good addition to NLP.
And so I can now better understand other people’s silly actions using Enneagram types, and by giving clear responses I can help them turn things around helping both the other person and myself. By making/keeping my circle of friends and contacts healthy, like I learned from you, I feel extremely vital and relieved. Or is it the other way around, because I am vital and relieved I am making my contacts healthy?!
After 12 years of being sick, and by trial and error, for me NLP has been a wonderful springboard to jumping back into society! With all the experience that I have gained from working in healthcare, I am now working in Spain as a coach for Dutch, English and French speaking people. Never before did I enjoy working so much as now with NLP!
Marcia Stoelmann Leysner.
No more ADHD
Looking back on the amount of material, I can say it was quite a lot. Very intensive, yet do-able! It was concluded with a surprising exam. A day filled with action. In a challenging way knowledge is tested and material is repeated in a playful manner. I can’t think of a better way to do it!

You're welcome and thanks!
I found the NLP Practitioner course with Joost very exciting. I had an idea of what NLP was, but that turned out to be not quite right. Yes, determining the enneagram type. I have a bit of many types in me. Joost: "You only think you do". That is because I'm a mediator. After the first weekend where we determined our enneagram I suddenly started viewing others and myself differently. Have gained more understanding for people and for myself. That in itself is worth the effort.
Joost knows how to keep you captivated. He talks fast and plenty, throws a lot of nonsense in and has wonderful anecdotes that he tells in such a way that it sticks with me. I have noticed that I can throw out full sentences and they don't come out for no reason. Just sitting and listening to Joost makes sense. His style is full of humour, confrontational and sometimes even shocking. But always with the best of intentions to make me conscious and to allow me to learn.
There's a lot of interaction with the group. There's a lot of laughing. Certainly when Joost starts shooting his gun loaded with humour at us. In my coaching practice I immediately started to apply what I had used in practice. And it works. Joost taught me that you can make many suggestions to your coaching clients, if you just give them some space.
I can certainly recommend the Practitioner education. Next year, I hope to take the master's class.

Moraal Resultaatgericht Coachen"
"After a year of practical experience with the techniques learned during the Practitioner course and experience gained in my coaching practice it was time for a sequel: the Master Practitioner.
Luckily, in the meantime, Joost's book Brain training was published, so that I could re-read what I had learned.
During the first week we practiced together to reverse the feeling, to rewind in black and white and the timelines. My group was nervous and eager to do well, so that mistakes were made which in turn turned out to be very educational. Whatever you feel or think: the customer is right. So it was very important to listen to the effect it has on the other person while practicing. I learned that using the acquired techniques that much more was possible by making your own variations and by being creative.
I started straight away in my own practice with my clients and was surprised in a positive way by the effect it had. Especially stacking the good feeling (confidence, love) from previous experiences and taking these as a force into your future is very effective. And I have regularly used the technique of doing past experiences over with the strength you have in the present, without changing the highlights of the experience. To my clients' satisfaction.
The second weekend was about the deep trance. What an experience! It is so valuable to experience while in a trance and it is marvellous to be allowed to guide a person in and towards a trance.
It is wonderful to be in a trance at least 3 times during one weekend. What a gift!
After that weekend I have begun to feel it is quite normal to bring my clients into a trance and give them good suggestions. And they go with it and it is much easier than before.
The third weekend was about creativity: presenting, painting and singing. It was delightful to do. A part of me emerged that usually lies subdued.
I truly enjoyed myself. Painting in a trance was a very strange experience for me. My hand would move through the paint and over the canvas by itself. And I didn't know what the result would be. Extraordinary and the style was totally different to what it normally was. So that is what I have in me: incredibly cool!
Guided by the voice coach we sang and here too I could redefine my limitations. The best part was the one on individual cases. I received such wonderful feedback that gave me many new insights, which I used immediately in my current project. And successfully so. And it also resulted in a coaching assignment for me.
The last weekend was another deepening experience. To compile your own mixing console for your sub modalities guided by each other and then reaching ecstasy by operating the right buttons on your mixing console guided by your fellow students. A combination of visions, sounds and senses like I've never experienced before.
To experience your own life path and future under the superb enthusiastic guidance of Joost and being guided by your fellow students with sounds that had a negative and positive connotation for me. Great to have experienced that. Great to be able to contribute to other students' experience.
Joost is very strict at selecting the right people who will make the sounds and especially how they do it. With the intention to make the experience a super perfect experience for us, the students. What a great care! Even if it is not always clear why Joost does the things he does. I have experienced that I am very easily open to negative influences. It's a gift to have been made aware that it is my own choice to allow this to happen. And the fact that I am less and less bothered by it because I can do something about it myself by using my own good feeling. Even if it doesn't work the first or the second time.
An absolute must if you want to get to know yourself better and be able to add your own personal interpretation to NLP."

“Hi Joost,
For me, the past months have been unique. I have learned a lot and got to know many new people. And more importantly…
a feeling of euphoria (arousing that feeling was my first exam assignment) has stuck with me after the final exam. This has resulted in me not being able to hide my enthusiasm for NLP any longer.
Your sense of humour, your unconvential way of thinking and your excellent presentation make you a fine trainer.

After my Practitioner class I sometimes was confronted with my limitations when it came to helping people to use their brain more effectively. During the Master Practitioner you allowed me to experience that you can fully rely on your subconscious. This requires a healthy amount of courage and perseverance. Your pleasant and pragmatic way of teaching allowed my brain to be trained to its fullest potential in order to take the next step.
Thank you.
